Your research idea deserves a better starting point.

Is your research idea actually new?

Before you spend months searching, reading, and writing, find out what the literature already knows, and where it stops. Gapnostic searches the literature, tests your idea against existing research, and helps you turn uncertainty into a defensible research direction.

No spam. Just early access and occasional product updates.

Built for researchers who don't want to discover the same thing twice.

The problem

Three questions stand between an idea and a good research project.

“Has this already been done?”

You should not have to discover halfway through your proposal that somebody already answered your question.

“What does the literature already know?”

Dozens of papers, no structure, and findings that were never designed to fit together.

“Where is there still something worth investigating?”

The gap is the whole point, and it is the hardest thing to see from inside a pile of PDFs.

Answering these by hand means weeks of searching, reading and comparing. Gapnostic brings that work into one place.
How it's different

Don't just ask AI. Investigate your idea.

A general chatbot can give you an answer. Research needs more than an answer.

AI can help you think. Gapnostic helps you investigate.

How it works

Start with a rough idea. Leave with solid ground.

1

Start with your idea

Tell Gapnostic what you're thinking, even if the idea is still rough.

2

Let Gapnostic investigate

It searches the literature and examines how existing research relates to your idea.

3

See where your idea stands

What has already been studied, where findings overlap or conflict, and where questions remain open.

4

Refine your direction

Turn what you find into a research direction you can actually defend.

“I think this might be interesting.” “Here's what has already been studied.” “Here's what hasn't been adequately answered.” “Here's why my research is worth doing.”

Questions

What Gapnostic is, and what it is not.

What is Gapnostic?

Gapnostic is a research workspace that checks whether a research idea has already been done, organises the literature around it, and helps you design a method you can defend. It searches published academic literature, compares what it finds against your idea, and traces every claim it makes back to a real paper.

Who is it for?

Researchers, postgraduate students and supervisors, in any discipline. It is most useful at the point where you have an idea but do not yet know whether it is worth committing to.

How is it different from asking a chatbot?

A general chatbot answers your question. Gapnostic investigates it. The papers come from a real academic index rather than from a model’s recollection, so the references exist, and every finding carries the sentence in the source it was drawn from.

Will it write my paper?

No, and that is deliberate rather than a feature we have not built yet. Gapnostic does the reading, searching and cross-checking. The thinking and the writing stay yours, because those are the parts a degree certifies and the parts you have to defend.

Where do the papers come from?

From open academic indexes of published literature, with the DOI attached so you can check any of them yourself. Where only an abstract is available rather than the full text, Gapnostic says so instead of writing as though it read the whole paper.

Can I use it now?
